Privacy Policy

BillShocker (billshocker.com) is built to need as little of your data as possible. This page explains, in plain language, what is and is not collected. We do not sell personal data.

The calculator: nothing leaves your browser

The Bill Shock Calculator and the cost-to-run calculators run entirely in your browser, against data already baked into the page. The state you pick and the bill or usage you type are never sent to us or to anyone else, and are not stored anywhere — reload the page and they are gone.

No accounts

There are no user accounts, no logins, and no profiles. You can use everything on this site without telling us who you are.

Email rate alerts (when offered)

If you sign up for the monthly rate alert (where the signup form is available), we first send a confirmation email — your address is added to the list only after you click the confirmation link (double opt-in), and the pending request expires on its own if you don't. Once subscribed, we store your email address and your chosen state with our email provider, solely to send you that state's monthly update. Every email includes an unsubscribe link; unsubscribing stops the emails immediately (your address stays on file with our email provider, flagged as unsubscribed, so we cannot accidentally re-add you). To have your address deleted entirely, email us at the address below. We do not use the list for anything else and we do not share or sell it.

Analytics

Analytics load only when configured — if no analytics account is set up for a deployment, no analytics script loads at all. When enabled, we use Google Analytics 4 to understand aggregate usage (pages viewed, country, device), subject to the consent rules below. The site may also use Ahrefs Web Analytics, a cookieless page-view counter.

Advertising

Display ads (Google AdSense) likewise load only when configured. When enabled, Google and its partners may set and read cookies and similar identifiers on your device, and may collect your IP address, to serve, measure, and personalize ads — subject to your consent where consent is required. You can review how Google uses data from partner sites and manage personalization in your Google Ad settings.

Consent (Consent Mode v2)

When Google Analytics or Google ads are active, a consent banner appears on your first visit. (The cookieless page-view counter above needs no banner because it stores nothing on your device.) For visitors in the EEA, the UK, and Switzerland, advertising and analytics storage is denied by default until you accept. Elsewhere, storage is granted by default and you can decline at any time. Your choice is saved in your browser's local storage (the only thing this site itself stores on your device) and is re-applied on later visits; clear the site's data in your browser to be asked again.

Affiliate links

Some outbound links are affiliate links, always marked as sponsored and disclosed next to where they appear. If you enroll or buy through them we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. This never changes the data we show or how states are ranked. See the full affiliate disclosure.

Your rights

Depending on where you live (e.g. GDPR, CCPA), you may have rights to access or delete personal data. Given the design above, the personal data we could hold about you is at most an email-alert subscription — but for any request or question, contact contact@billshocker.com.
